The Original Program Since 2012

About PSLA Center

We built the private student loan debt validation program from scratch in 2012 — before anyone else was doing it. Here's the story behind what we built and why it works.

Where This Started

The story behind PSLA Center does not start with student loans. It starts with the 2008 financial crisis.

Before founding this company, we had spent years running businesses — for others and independently. We were always the numbers people in the room, comfortable with financials in ways most people aren't. When the 2008 crash hit, a sole proprietorship we operated was severely impacted. The business had to close. And because it was a sole proprietorship, every creditor came after us personally. Credit was destroyed. Debt collectors were relentless.

That experience led us directly into debt validation. Not the polished, refined program we offer today — a much rougher, earlier version of the same legal process. But we learned something important: collection agencies frequently cannot prove what they claim to own. We resolved our situation. We remembered what worked and why.

How Private Student Loans Entered the Picture

Shortly after the federal Pay As You Earn (PAYE) program was introduced in 2010, we were working with a company that helped people navigate medical billing, credit card debt, and the new federal student loan programs. Everyone in that space was focused on federal loans — the new PAYE program, income-driven repayment, the emerging Public Service Loan Forgiveness framework.

We noticed something nobody else was paying attention to: not a single company in the country was doing anything for private student loan borrowers.

So we started researching. We looked at every major private student loan lender — how they structured their loans, how they transferred debt to collection agencies, what documentation those agencies held, and what legal standards applied to their collection activity. What we found was troubling. Private student loan lenders were predatory to begin with — structuring loans in ways that maximized interest collection while keeping principal balances high. And when borrowers defaulted, the debt was being sold to collection agencies that frequently could not produce adequate legal documentation of ownership.

We had seen this problem before. We had solved it before — for ourselves. We knew the legal framework. And we knew that if we tailored the debt validation process specifically to private student loan collection agencies, it would work.

We took the idea to the company we were working with. They gave us an office and told us to figure it out.

We did. And we were right — it worked. Clients got results. Private student loan debt that collection agencies had no legal right to collect was being legally invalidated.

Why We Founded PSLA Center in 2015

From 2012 to 2015, the program ran through the company we had developed it with. We had an agreement: the intellectual property was ours, and they handled the back-end operations — accounting, payments, dispute processing.

Over time, clients started calling with complaints. Not about results — the program was working. About service. Documents sent with no acknowledgment. Questions left unanswered. Basic communication failures that had nothing to do with the program itself and everything to do with how the company treated the people it was supposed to be helping.

That was unacceptable. These were people in genuine financial distress, trusting us with some of the most stressful situations of their lives. They deserved better.

In 2015 we founded PSLA Center — on our own terms, with our own standards. The program was ours. The clients would be ours. And the way we treated them would reflect what we actually believed: that people in financial difficulty deserve straight answers, immediate responses, and someone who genuinely knows what they're talking about.

What We Believe — And How We Operate

We are going to be straight with you. That is not a marketing line — it is how this company operates.

When you call PSLA Center, you get facts. You get an honest assessment of your situation. You get told what we can do, what we cannot do, and what you should realistically expect. If your situation does not qualify for our program, we tell you that too — clearly, and without wasting your time.

When you become a client and send us documents, you get an immediate acknowledgment. When you have a question, you get an answer — often the same day, sometimes within minutes. We know that sounds simple. It is simple. But it matters enormously to people who are stressed about their financial situation and need to know someone is actually on their side.

We do not sugarcoat. We do not oversell. We do not tell you what you want to hear if it is not the truth. If you want that kind of company, there are plenty of them out there — and we would encourage you to read our consumer protection page before working with any of them.

The Knowledge Behind the Program

PSLA Center's founder has been called one of the foremost experts in the country on private student loan debt and the legal framework governing its collection. That is not something we say lightly.

Over more than 13 years of working exclusively in this space, we have developed a depth of knowledge that attorneys — including those who specialize in debt law — regularly acknowledge they do not have. We have had attorneys call us for guidance on cases involving their clients' private student loans. We have had borrowers tell us they called every attorney in their county and none could explain the private student loan landscape the way we did in a single free consultation.

When clients face lawsuits from private student loan collection agencies — and some do — the support we provide to them and their attorneys is built on over a decade of direct, specific experience with these exact situations. We know which collection agencies have which documentation problems. We know which lenders' loan packages are most vulnerable. We know this because we have been doing it since before anyone else was.

Companies have attempted to copy our program over the years. Some are still trying. Copying what we say is not the same as knowing what we know — and it is certainly not the same as having the integrity to do right by the clients who trust you with their situation. Those companies do not last.

Our 99% Success Rate — What It Actually Means

We define success one way: no one can ever legally force our client to pay a single penny on that private student loan again. That is what success means. Not a reduced balance. Not a payment plan. Complete legal invalidation of the collection agency's right to collect.

That is what our program delivers in 99% of cases.

We back that up with a straightforward refund policy: if a collection agency is able to validate the debt during our process, the client receives a full refund of what they paid to that point — no questions asked, no hassle. In over 8 years of operating PSLA Center, we have not had to issue a refund under that policy. Not once.

That is what a 99% success rate actually looks like in practice.

Who We Help

There is no single profile of a PSLA Center client. We have helped borrowers whose loans were not yet in default but who could see clearly that the payment structure made default inevitable. We have helped borrowers who had been in collections for years and had given up hope. We have helped everyone in between.

What our clients share is not a particular financial situation — it is the experience of having a private student loan and feeling like there is no legitimate path forward. Refinancing denied. Debt settlement ineffective. Federal programs inapplicable. Bankruptcy too damaging and often futile for private loans.

If that is where you are, call us. The consultation is free. We will tell you honestly and directly whether you qualify and what to expect.
